fast fashion needs to die

Fast Fashion has taken over, the term quality once revered by consumers has evolved into quantity and convenience. Malls have been catering this buffet, serving heavy doses of paper thin shirts, spandex infested jeans and seams that make a wet napkin feel sturdy. What makes it worse is consumers actually put up with this lack of quality and shell out hard earned money for it. Most of these garments are made in Asian countries and produced in astronomical amounts. To put it simply, there is to much low quality clothing.

You have h&m destroying clothes because of overstock, Wet Seal letting product fall all over the store floors, Hollister over pricing and Forever 21 dresses falling apart weeks after purchase. This is all happening because of poor quality and mass production.

I to have fallen victim to “Fast Fashion,” but have learned trough mistakes and research that great quality clothing exist. Buying American made is a great option but not full proof. The best way to combat fast fashion is to be patient and educate yourself on what good quality is. Buy pieces that will last you years upon years. You also must not be afraid to spend a little more on that jacket or dress shirt, remember these items will last you much longer. Thus saving you money, and anger in the mean time.

Even tho commercialism has brought the mainstream fashion industry to the pits of quality. We can revive it, by encouraging those close to us to buy quality clothing and to not take what the Wet seals, H&M’s, Hollister’s and Forever 21’s have given us. Maybe those companies and industries will realize they can’t sell a see through tee shirt for $20.

Two Albums Worth Buying

Gallows- Grey Britain

This is album is very dark and depressing. Easily the hardcore/punk album of the year, this cd bleeds raw emotion. With vocals echoing old punk style (think bad religion, sex pistols) and crushing guitars that rival such hardcore acts as Terror. The album is centered around the current state of Great Britain, or rather police state.   Reconmended tracks are  Death Voices, The Vulture (Acts I & II) and Crucifucks.

Vampire Weekend- Contra

Vampire weekend returns with an under hand toss of an album. By no means is the this cd on the level of their self-titled, but it is still better then 80% of indie albums out. This album is great for car rides, doing work, relaxing or just about anything. Stand out tracks are Cousins and White Sky.

Both these albums are well worth the $10 to $14 they cost, support these great artists, go pick up these albums.
